Winter Series and hopes for 2009

Well Its been a while since i last updated my blog and so much has happened but i wont bore you with the problems in my life i will get straight into the important buisiness RACING.

After what can only be described as a torrid summer i was about ready to hang up my transmitter and take a break away from the racing for the winter. Following my work problems i was pursuaded (by my wife no less) to join up with the boys for the second round of the winter series. The XT8 was in good shape following a rebuild so i thought hell why not.

Well from there i dont know what happened to me or where it came from but my god it did my driving was no where near as erratic as i had been thru the summer and with the ninja running so well in the awful conditions i managed to rack up enough points to go into the final round in 2nd place in the Team DB SS and 4th place overall at KMRC.

The last round had to be recheduled following poor weather conditions but the folowing weekend it was back on and we were ready to settle the finals on the track.

The heats went well enough and i was in to start the final in front of my opponent in the overall table BUT kieron who was in 3rd in the SS table had driven an awsome set of heats and taken Pole for the final. It was all down to me needing to finish no less than 3 places behind him to retain my 3rd place overall and The 2nd place in the SS.

We lined up on the grid following the formation lap when DISASTER !! on the warmup i had lost my battery box lid and my Lipo was hanging out. I couldnt start the race with the car in that condition so i ran off the rostrum as the race started and stright to the pits area to grab anything i could use to secure it so i could get out. At this point i was in jepordy of blowing all the hard work and losing my 2nd place in the SS and also my 3rd overall i was gutted as i ran back to the track with my gaffer tape in hand. I mummified the battery and wedged it so tightly in the box that it couldnt move the car restarted i got out on the track 5 mins in to the final and a LONG way behind. I started to bang in some quick laps and with the conditions drivers were having problem after problem could i possibly still nick it (i doubted it) the race panned out and at the finish i was still the last of the runners BUT crucially the car that was challanging me for 3rd in the KMRC table had dropped out so i knew i had the 3rd place and that made me happy as after the summer i had to get 3rd overall i was as happy as i could possibly be after a terrible day.
Kieron had pipped me to 2nd in the team DB champs after an awsome drive to win the final round and beat me by one point into 2nd.

All in all it was a great winter series and i actually enjoyed my racing again was fantastic to actually do well and prove to myself above all the others that i can do it and compete and i wasnt there to make up numbers.

Now to the Summer 2009

Well i have decided to stick with the XT8 and also the ninja but following a play day with the buggy i have decided to give the buggy a try in round 1 of the summer series with a plan that if it goes well i will do both thru the season but use the truggy to concentrate on the SRS that i have decided to give a go this year.

Will keep you all informed as to how i get on

Gareth
