Doverbashers Forum: Doverbashers Forum -> KMRC Round 1 and the start of the summer

Well for the first round of the summer series i had decided to have a go at the 1/8th rally x (buggy) class. My buggy as most of you know sits in the shed in between the shows.

So i decided to take the leap and give it a go it couldnt be that bad (could it) lol.

The buggy was prepared ready for the first round and had its Picco P3 powerplant in place.

Round 1

Well the track was still damp from the rain we had the night before so i decided to go with the anglespikes for the first heat.

I started out quite agressively and quickly discovered that aggressive just doesnt work with buggys at all so i needed to alter my driving style to be a little more progressive and not as hard. The engine was running sweet and i felt like i could push a little harder and push i did. Having watched the top drivers on the quads my challange to myself was to follow their line and try to jump the first 2 then the tabletop landing on the downslope of the 2nd set of quads to allow you to pop off the 3rd nicely and into the long straight. The first attempt was a complete failure as i was way to close to the inside edge of the jumps and popped off the track into the grass rather than in a straight line not a great start but i was confident if i found the right line out of the final corner i could nail it. Next time round i was all ready to try again i went a little wider this time into the final corner and decided well this is my best chance as i was almost central in the jump so i went for it. Popped the first Double cleanly then the Table but had i gassed it enough to make the landing ok. YES was the answer i landed almost in perfect position and popped the last jump allowing me to make time up and down the straight. I Had completed the challange i had set myself and was very prepared for a Fantastic day.

Round 2

I chose angles again the track was dryer now but still not bone dry.

Not a great heat this one. was trying to push but had too much grip on the angles then had a radio failure so that was me out.

Round 3

Changed to crime fighters as it was drier

Went out and gave it as hard as i could push but i was probably trying too hard to improve and also had engine problems that slowed me toward the end of the run only managed a 4 lapper witch saw me start well down in the B final.

B Final

went out to just relax and get as high up as i could would have liked the bump up bit if it wasnt possible i would live with it. I Started well and was progressing thru the pack got up to about 4th when the car cut out and had to be recovered to the pits on recovery we found that the engine had loosened itself and lost a bolt out of the mount i ran back to the pits desperate to get out and try to recover we got a screw in there and tightened down and restarted about 8 mins in it was going well again but i had left myself way too much to do i settled into a rytham and was going quite well made 3 positions after 2 dropped out and actually overtook one on the track so at least i didnt finish dead last.

Conclusions

I enjoyed it with the buggy and will be carrying on in the summer series with the buggy. My usually great preperation let me down this time and silly things like the lipo dumping and screws comming lose let me down but hey there is always next time and i assure you THERE WILL BE A NEXT TIME !!!!!!!!!
